KERB SIDE COLECTIONS
Paper, cans, foil and glass bottles can all be put into the green box for kerb-side re-cycling each week. Bottle tops should be removed and cans should be flattened. Pyrex and other tableware are not recyclable, nor are light bulbs or window glass. Please do not put broken glass into the box.
Clothing and shoes may be placed in a bag marked ‘textiles’ and placed in the green box.
Car batteries and engine oil (in a sealed container and marked ‘oil’) may be placed beside the green box for collection.
The brown food bins are also collected each week. As the contents are sent for composting
kitchen waste (cooked or uncooked food, tea bags, bones etc) must not be put into plastic bags. Instead wrap in newspaper before placing in the brown bin, or line the bin with approved compostable liners. These are available at the Village Post Office or contact the Taunton Deane helpline on 01823 356346.
Garden Waste can be placed in specially purchased green bins or paper sacks and collected on alternate weeks. To order contact Taunton Deane or the helpline on 01823 356346.

There is a MINI RECYCLING CENTRE in the Village Hall car park where there are skips for plastics and paper & card.
These are emptied regularly, and the system is working well, but it could work even better if everyone followed these instructions:
PLASTICS
Only plastic containers that have the recycling triangle and numbers 1, 2 or 3 can be recycled here; they are mostly bottles but some other containers as well. Some bottles have the triangle but a different number. They are recyclable in theory, but not here. In general, please remove bottle tops as they are not recyclable; but some plastic milk bottle tops are – just look for the triangle and the number 1, 2 or 3. In all cases, please flatten the bottles so they take up less space and the skip doesn’t have to be emptied so often. The more often is has to be emptied the more fuel is wasted in collecting it.
PAPER & CARD
As paper is collected from our homes for recycling this does not need to go into the skips, but if you are uncertain as to whether something classifies as paper or card it is as well to bring it to the skip, as card will contaminate the paper collection but paper won’t contaminate the card. As with the plastic bottles, pleases flatten cardboard boxes so that they take up less space and the skip does not have to be emptied so often.
Please do not leave your plastics or card beside the skip as this makes the car park very unsightly.
If the skip is full, then please ring the number on the skip to let the owners know.
TETRA PAKS
Paper-based drinks and liquid food cartons, such as those made by Tetra Pak, can be recycled at Priorswood Recycling Centre.
Drinks cartons are made from many layers of cardboard, plastic and foil and should be collected and recycled separately from cardboard.
LOW ENERGY LIGHT BULBS
These can be recycled at Priorswood Recycling Centre.
BATTERIES
Batteries should not be place in your wheelie bin for disposal as they contain heavy metal contaminants; they should be taken to one of the main Household Recycling Centres, our nearest one is Priorswood Recycling Centre, or if you prefer, bring them to the Save It stall at the Produce Market in the Village Hall, on the first Saturday of each month, (except January) and we will arrange for them to be recycled.
PRINTER INK CARTRIDGES, MOBILE PHONES and SPECTACLES
These can also be brought to the Save It stall for recycling.
Computers can be taken to Taunton Deane Council for Voluntary Services Community Computers at Unit E, Creech Business Park, Mill Lane, Creech St Michael.
BULKY HOUSEHOLD ITEMS, RUBBLE and SOIL
These must be taken to Priorswood Recycling Centre for recycling.
STOP!
Before taking it to the tip, consider whether something that is unwanted by you might still have a potential value to someone else. If so try recycling it on Taunton Freecycle
